General Information
Important Notes for Participants
- Event Date and Location:
- The Lomond ADVENTURE Open Water Swim will take place on Sunday, 15 December 2024, at Lomond Wine Estate in Gansbaai.
- Participants should arrive early for registration, parking, and to familiarize themselves with the course.
- Age Requirements:
- 5km Swim: Minimum age is 18 years.
- 3km Swim: Minimum age is 18 years.
- 1 MILE Swim: Minimum age is 16 years
- Registration:
- Online registration is required. We will allow late entries.
- Ensure all registration details are correct, and participants must complete a waiver form as part of registration.
- Race Kit Collection:
- Race numbers, swim caps, and timing chips will be provided during kit collection on race morning.
- Swim caps are mandatory and must be worn throughout the swim for safety and visibility.
- Safety and Swim Course:
- Lifeguards and safety kayaks will be stationed along the course for assistance. If you need help during the swim, raise your hand, and a safety official will assist you.
- The course will be clearly marked with buoys. Participants must swim the designated route and should not stray off course.
- Water temperature and weather conditions will be monitored. Wetsuits are optional but recommended if water temperatures are cooler.
- Cut-off Times:
- To ensure participant safety and event timing, cut-off times may be enforced. Swimmers who do not complete the distance within the cut-off will be assisted by safety staff and guided back to shore.
- Hydration and Nutrition:
- Water and refreshments will be provided on the shore after the race. Participants are encouraged to bring any additional hydration or energy snacks they may need before and after the swim.
- Environmental Responsibility:
- Please respect the environment and refrain from littering in and around the dam. Dispose of any waste in the designated bins.
- Spectator Information:
- Spectators are welcome to watch from designated viewing areas around the dam. Food stalls and wine tasting will be available for spectators to enjoy while they wait.
- Timing and Results:
o Timing chips will be used to record race times. Ensure your timing chip is securely fastened to avoid timing issues.
o Results will be posted online after the race, and winners will be recognized in each category.
- Weather Conditions:
o The swim will proceed in most weather conditions, but in the case of extreme weather (lightning, strong winds), the race may be delayed, adjusted, or cancelled for safety reasons.
o Participants will be notified of any weather-related changes in advance.
- What to Bring:
o Appropriate swimwear and wetsuits (if desired).
o Towel, sunscreen, and dry clothing for after the race.
o Any personal hydration or snacks for post-race recovery.
- Medical and First Aid:
o A medical team will be present on-site for any emergencies. Please notify a race official immediately if you or another swimmer need medical attention.
- Cancellation Policy:
o Should the event be canceled due to unforeseen circumstances, refunds will be issued according to the event’s terms and conditions outlined during registration.
