“ Die Ratel”, meaning Honey Badger in Afrikaans (a local language in South Africa) is set to be a raw old-school adventure - alike to a Honey Badger, tough, honest and a challenge so worth taking on!

The race will be hosted in the heart of the Richtersveld, a national park and World Heritage site located in the North Eastern corner of South Africa. The Richtersveld is a landscape unlike any other on Earth, Picture vast expanses of raw wilderness, where towering rocky peaks meet endless desert plains, where the Orange river flows through and provides a green oasis - the lifeblood of this harsh landscape, where Hartmann's mountain Zebra still roam freely, where you are surrounded by a rocky maze so large it makes you feel insignificant in stature but so moved by its power. The Richtersveld is a place that is timeless and almost classical it is so special.

The desert terrain is jagged, tough and filled with deep canyons and high peaks that rise dramatically against the backdrop of clear blue skies. The Richtersveld is an incredible theatre to race, where every turn presents a new adventure and challenge, and every vista a testament to the raw beauty of nature's design.

For the first time since 2007 an adventure race will pass through this remote quiet wilderness, some of which for the first time.

General Information

Split Payments for Teams

The entry portal offers a split payment option, enabling each team member to pay their share of the total entry fee directly. On the checkout screen, the entrant can choose to pay for their entry only or cover their entry and the entries of one or more teammates.

When a teammate fills out their details, they will have the option to pay their portion at that time.

The split payment option is available only during the Early Bird payment window.

Split payment are as follows:

For a 4-person team:

• 1 person: R12,000

• 2 people: R24,000

• 3 people: R36,000

• 4 people: R48,000

For a 2-person team:

• 1 person: R13,500

• 2 people: R27,000

Payment Plan (for Early Bird Price)

You can stagger your payments using the team split payment option.

• 25% of the total entry fee payable upfront by 31 December (e.g., R12,000 for 1 person in a 4-person team).

• 50% of the total entry fee payable by 28 February 2025 (e.g., R24,000 for 2 people in a 4-person team).

• Final 25% of the total entry fee payable by 31 March 2025 (e.g., R12,000 for the last person in a 4-person team).

Refund Policy for Split Payment Plan

• 75% refundable of the paid amount until 30 January 2025.

• 50% refundable of the paid amount until 31 March 2025.

• No refunds after 31 March 2025.

Full Payment Upfront (Early Bird Price)

• 100% refundable until 31 January 2025.

• 75% refundable until 31 March 2025.

• No refunds after 31 March 2025.

• Payment can be made via credit card or instant EFT.

Two-person teams

Two-person teams must undergo a basic experience check before signing up. Please reach out to the race organizer for your access code to register.

Entry Includes:

Accommodation excluded | Host venue TBC - will be released in December 2024.

Camping & chalet options are available and will cost approximately R2500 / $150 for a chalet per night.
