The Annual 25 Piers Swim Challenge now known as the World’s Toughest surf swim event, began in the early 90’s by group of Durban Surf Clubbies doing their annual end of year swim. The event began as 100 lengths of 100 meters in the Iconic Durban Beach baths, which then evolved to 8 x pier swims around the Dairy Pier, the North Beach Pier, the Bay Pier and the final one around North Beach Pier giving you a total of 25 Piers. From this Durban Surf has now created what we call the 25 Piers Surf Swim a challenge to swim around the North Beach Pier 25 times, each on a timed interval.
