The Lomond ADVENTURE Full Moon Run, taking place on Monday, 16 December 2024, marks the grand finale of the Lomond Adventure Weekend in spectacular fashion. Set against the stunning backdrop of Lomond Wine Estate in Gansbaai, this event offers runners a rare and magical opportunity to experience the estate’s natural beauty under the glow of a full moon. As the final event of the weekend, the Full Moon Run provides a fitting conclusion to days filled with adrenaline and adventure.

 

Participants will embark on a night-time trail run, choosing from either a 5km or 10km route, both weaving through fynbos-covered hills, lush vineyards, and along the serene dam shores. The atmosphere will be quiet and peaceful, with only the soft light of the moon and headlamps illuminating the paths ahead. The calm night air, the sound of nature, and the sense of adventure add a mystical quality to this run, making it unlike any daytime race.

Important Notes for the Lomond ADVENTURE Full Moon Run:

  1. Event Date & Time:

    • Start time will be after sunset to ensure the full moon is visible, with final race times confirmed closer to the event.
  2. Distances:
    • 5km and 10km options available.
    • Both routes are well-marked, with reflective signs and headlamps required for visibility.
  3. Location:
    • Lomond Wine Estate, Gansbaai, Overberg Region, South Africa.
  4. Lighting:
    • Runners must bring their own headlamps or handheld lights for safety. The moonlight will guide the way, but proper lighting is essential for navigating the trails.
  5. Trail Terrain:
    • Expect off-road trails, with varying terrains such as vineyards, fynbos paths, and gentle hills. The trails may be uneven, so proper trail running shoes are recommended.
  6. Gear:
    • Dress appropriately for night running and weather conditions. Layered clothing is advised for the cooler evening temperatures.
  7. Safety:
    • Medical personnel will be on-site for emergencies.
    • Ensure you are aware of your surroundings, as the run takes place in a natural setting. Night trail runs require careful attention to footing and trail markers.
  8. Refreshments:
    • Water points will be available along the route, though bringing your own hydration is encouraged.
    • Post-run refreshments will be provided, including snacks and wine tasting opportunities.
