Thomas More College - Long Walk
The Long Walk stands as a cherished tradition at Thomas More College, rooted in a story of inspiration and determination. Beginning in 1962, when President Kennedy challenged Americans to walk 50 miles to promote health, the tradition took shape when a visionary teacher at the newly established South African school, Mike Leffler, decided to heed the call in 1963. Accompanied by fellow teachers and brave students, they embarked on a journey from Greytown to Cato Ridge. Though only two completed the 50-mile trek, a spark was ignited, birthing a tradition that would endure. From its humble beginnings, the Long Walk has evolved into a symbol of unity, resilience, and personal triumph, engraving itself as the oldest and most cherished tradition in the annals of Thomas More College's storied history.
